the package is broken message

I am new to using forums, I hope I am doing this correctly. I installed K9 Web Protection several days ago and had some problems with it, so a friend who helps me with computer problems suggested I add Malwarebytes to my protection. I also added Spyware Terminator. Today when I turned my computer on, a message came up in the bottom right corner and I did not see it soon enough to see what it was. So I opened Avast and tried to run an Avast update and a message came up that said the package is broken. I think that may have been what the original message was. Do I have a problem? Can I run a scan and be o.k.?

I have no experience of K9 so I can’t help with any problem (though you don’t mention what they are or if they might be related to avast).

What colour was the message box ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
