The package is broken

Yesterday while my computer was in the process of starting up there was a power failure. I’m assuming that Avast was in the process of updating when that happened :frowning:
Since then I get a red alert that Avast hasn’t updated because the package is broken
I tried the avast repair option through the contol panel add/remove option but it didn’t help.

Is there any way of fixing this without me downloading a new avast and saving it somewhere, then completely uninstalling my old avast, then hitting run on my new avast? I’m a computer dunderhead and are reluctant to do that if there is some other solution.

Thanks for you help

Since the repair failed, the only option is to remove avast and do a fresh install.

Before the uninstall, try this:

  • Manual update of VPS, often resolves the package is broken notice - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 103 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

DavidR was the working solution! Just upgrading manually! Many thanks!

You’re welcome.
