Hello,

Yesterday when I turned on my pc, I got the error message for avastui.exe “The program can’t start because iertutil.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.” And so I tried, but whenever I tried to download a new version chrome would blocked it. Eventually I was able to download it via Edge but when I tried to run it I would get another message “HTMLayout.dll cannot be loaded to properly start GUI. Therefore process cannot continue.” And so I tried the avast clear on safe mode but then I got “The stub cannot run installer/updater executable c:\Users\Thomas Albert\Desktop\avastclear.exe (code 0x3)”. I have no idea what to do now, any help would be appreciated.

Your problem ha nothing to do with avast.
Your Windows has a problem.

Perform a in-place-repair of Windows.
If that doesn’t solve it, perform a clean installation.

When you get a problem like this the first thing you should try is running SFC (System File Checker) and then Chkdsk (CheckDisk).

If there is any relatively simple problem with Windows this will probably fix or at least identify it.

Apparently this DLL is an Internet Explorer Run Time Utility and is vital for a a whole range of Windows functions.

So several suggestions about how this might be fixed if SFC or Chkdsk doesn’t work.

Personally I’d check in Windows > System32 folder and check through the DLL files. If iertutil.dll isn’t there (it should be) I’d find a kosher copy of iertutil.dll online and just copy it in. Reboot and do a full AVAST AV scan just to be safe and hope that fixed the problem.

BTW don’t ever be tempted to use any third party tools to ‘fix’ errors like this they’re almost certainly dodgy.
