Hi there,

I have Windows 7 Professional with Avast Free 7 installed. I cannot uninstall Avast through control panel, and when I try to run avastclear.exe in safe mode, I get: “The stub cannot run installer/updater executable c:\program files\avast software\avast\setup\sfx\avast.setup (code 0x3)”

I’ve attached logs from Farbar:

Any help would be appreciated!

Do a full system scan with MalwareBytes Antimalware Free and attach the logs in your next post. Malware may be present in your system. I have notified to a malware expert to monitor your post.

This fix must be run from safe mode… Once it has completed the retry Avast uninstall utility

Hi there,

I did what you said and it seemed to clear a lot of Avast stuff, but I still can’t run the avastclear.exe file - I still get the same error.

Have attached the fixlog.

Have also run a malwarebytes scan and attached the results.

OK lets now remove the files and folders

Then try Avast uninstall

Was finally able to run avastclear and finally get rid of the old Avast/install the new one.
