The stub cannot run installer/updater executable

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with a Avast Free reinstallation. Each time I try to desinstall or install a new version of the product, I get the message “The stub cannot run installer/updater executable…”. I saw several messages on the forum about this problem, it seems I have to post these two attached files to get help. ;D

Remove avast completely

control panel > software > avast > remove
run the uninstall tool
remove leftover folders/files/registry entries manually
reboot

Than (try to) install the latest version of avast.

I should have told it: the standard uninstall function does not work (no message, no action…) and the cleanup tool from Avast neither (message box : “The stub cannot run installer/updater executable…”).

Did you run the uninstall tool in safe mode ?

You have adaware antivirus and elements of AVG antivirus on the system these need to be removed if you wish to install Avast

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S0].txt as well.

Uninstall Adaware antivirus first then :

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast
