The VBoxAsw Support Driver

I have upgraded to WIndows 10. I have had 3 BSOD reboots since the upgrade last week.

On each event the WIndows event log indicated the error occurred on the VBoxAsw driver.

As the error states it cannot find the path then try a repair of Avast

There was nothing to tell me what path it was looking for so I can’t troubleshoot the error.

I am using version 10.3.2225

So it appears that WIndows can’t find the service to start it, or something along those lines.

So, I did a repair and the service still won’t start. As before windows could not find the file.

Thoughts?

SO… digging a little deeper after the repair… I found this…

SO it looks like something failed on the install for loading this service. Any suggestions?

Windows 10 does not yet have the NG function… Lets go for a full re-install as you probably have an old copy of Avast

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast

Okay, after that process of uninstall and install, the VBox service is still in the list and won’t start. So what do you think. Do you think the service should’ve been unistalled or it is just a left over?

Not sure what to do now except wait for another BSOD and see if this is again the cause.

Well, I had another BSOD reboot today that is rooted in this VBox service. It’s not letting me disable the service.

Under settings > trouble shooting disable self protection module then disable that service

I just checked my Avast under Windows 10.
The Folder listed by you doesn’t exist at all in my Avast folder ???
Looks like avast was not properly removed before the latest version was installed.
Make sure that you do a clean install of Avast remove it through Programs and features and then run the Avast removal tool.
Reboot and then re-install Avast.

Remove the tick from enable Avast self defence module

Also when you uninstalled did you use the uninstall utility ?

That was one of the steps I took to get to this point. (Covered higher up in this thread)

I uninstalled the old Avast and then reinstalled.

The Vbox service remained.

I disabled the “Self-defense” mechanism

I was then able to disable the Vbox service.

I turned self-defense back on.

Let’s see how this runs. Hopefully the disable will hold through restarts.

This Vbox error seems to have returned and I don’t really get why.

I confirmed that it is disabled in services so why would it be trying to load unless something in Avast is trying to call it in the background.

This causes BSOD errors.
