Think I possibly may have a Virus or Infection

Hi All

Symptoms are

High cpu usage
PC Freezing/hardly responding at times
Temporarilty trying with Windows Defender Activated (nothing found though) or with Malwarebytes free version
Unknown Extension in IE 11 (might be related to uninstall of HP Support Assistant and HP Network Check, but not sure
Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

(can reinstall Avast cleanly and do a scan with that if that is recommened to do)

Thanks in advance all, Will Provide logs and any other information

with more the 300 posts i guess you know the drill … attach OTL logs

Here is OTL Logs, Hopes this sheds light on what is going on lately…after this is done, i’m officially done switching Antivirus programs, and sticking with Avast Free 2014.9.0 for Good…

Switched to Windows Defender on Advice of Microsoft support, originally I thought it was an issue with Skype Modern version causing High CPU Usage, Rep suggested removing 3rd party Antivirus, and seeing if the problem resolved, and also do a full system scan. I don’t think Avast was cause of the high cpu usage though, as still had it for a bit, til Microsoft Search Filter host released the CPU, and it seems fine now

Were you experiencing the same problem with MSE installed ?

Have you tried a clean boot to determine if there is a driver conflict

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Will run the listed fixes, and so far same problem with MSE/Windows Defender activated seems to be gone, what caused it to be gone not sure, did rollback Logitech Game software back to previous version just in case that was the conflict…Only did a little at a time so far today

If it continues then a clean boot will help to locate the problem

Was I Really infected or Just a Conflicting software issue?

Here is the Quick Scan OTL Log after reboot

I believe it to be a conflict issue all I removed with OTL were some orphans to tidy up

Thank you so much for the help, gonna proceed to reinstall Avast I think next, and should be good now…hopefully lol…seems better so far

If need be we will look for conflicts

Appreciates that, so far so good thus far, will let know if I experience any strange issues now, cleaned up PC I think good now, cleaned up startup items, removed some old games earlier I never played…so far so good thus far.

CPU usage about normal with normal programs open, according to Task Manager, and Logitech G15’s LCD

Exact Cause–Researched with Bing search

Microsoft Search Filter host was using 30-50 percent CPU along with my other programs, causing the high cpu usage in Windows 8.1 here, (bing search led me to Microsoft Answers forum where I ran the Search and Indexing trouble shooter, turned off indexing for one drive (external) that is dead…and disconnected that drive for good. and also unchecked xml as recommend by Microsoft in the answers forum) CPU usage dropped to 35 percent and staying there) Even with Secondlife 3rd party viewer open, IE 11, Avast running, and Skype open) and Mail app

I’m here if you need me
