This has to be the worst download/install experience ever!

The daughter had a bad time on a web page, and the ancient borrowed Samsung with Android 4.1.2 said something about a virus.

So after doodling around, we FINALLY found it had no AV app, and decided to get Avast.

And the misery begins. We found that downloading from the Play Store wants a Google Account. So we decided to download/install from Avast. And halfway through this, here we are at Play Store!!! And no way to get Avast except by revealing all her best-kept secrets to Google.

I will say nothing about the Samsung lack-of-GUIdance-interface. My Mum always said I should only say something if it was good.

Seriously, why should anybody have to have a Google account just to get an AV app? And we really don’t need GMail accounts. I’m not normally mendacious, but this sort of hijacking puts all sorts of bad ideas in my head. Even Microsoft isn’t that greedy–or stupid.

BTW, this is being typed in on Iron, NOT Chrome.

No wonder smart people choose iPhones!

Hello,

you can also get our app from Opera app-store.

regards,

Here’s the link: http://apps.opera.com/en_us/avast_mobile_security.html

Hi Werner, Asyn - Thank you. I never dreamt that Opera would host apps! But this has opened my eyes, and I will use Ixquick much better now.

Gordon.

You’re welcome.

You must be kidding. Apple ties you to their own store much more than Google does. And Apple also does want to know everything about you.
Who says you need to enter ANY true piece of information when creating a Google account ?

And, yes, I am also very annoyed by Google trying to make me (re-) register for Google+. But Apple is nothing better. Trust me, I have a corporate iPhone and a private iPad.
