This is not a genuine Windows installation

I have had this computer for about three years. Recently I started to use Avast. Previously I used Microsoft S.E. Avast found some problems which I was helped to sort out on the forum - thank you! Today when I turned my computer on it seemed to take a while, and when I looked at the screen, it was black, but in the lower right corner there was message telling me that it was not a genuine copy of windows. (I bought it from a reputable trader already installed). It then booted to the screen you get with Ctrl+Alt+delete. I clicked on ‘Task Manager,’ however in the background it continued to boot, so I exited the ‘Task Manager.’ Should I be worried? Avast did not tell me that it had found anything except Two unsafe Browser extensions or add=ons. I clicked to delete them, but after a while it came back with an error, saying it was unable to complete the task.

I recommend contacting Microsoft Support so they can check out the problem with your Key. Avast is not the cause of it.

There are some infections that can delete your key.

The problem of the ‘Genuine Windows Installation,’ seems to be just a glitch, but I do get a warning about two unsafe Browser add-ons. Extutli and Managera, in Google Chrome, both of which I can find no reference to in Chrome’s settings. Both of which Avast cannot delete, as it returns with ‘An unknown error occurred’. It showed three unsafe Browser add-ons, but it was able to delete ‘Priceless,’ from Firefox.

Can you run MBAM and FRST… Theyll remove the junk in Chrome…

It also might be worth taking a swing with adwcleaner, but Ill leave that to the Removers.

Sorry for the lack of grammar. My system isnt being very cooperative today, and wont switch from French to English!

I have used Adwcleaner and FRST, in trying to solve a previous problem. This new problem has appeared since. I do not know enough to use MBAM. I have already used Malware bites too. I cannot see the items in Chrome that Avast says are there!

Quite odd, I’ve seen your case before locally, but haven’t seen the Technicians fix it yet.

I will flag a remover for you.
