tried both, & think reason most Avast users are going back to Avast 4.8 (after trying 5.0) is because
AVAST 4.8 4
1, When you Open avast 4, you can set the scan from low to high along with “Scan Archives files” AVAST 5 does not have,(or i haven’t found) this setting
2 ACAST 4.8
You can set “Resident protection”
AVAST 5,dosen’t show this feature
3 but mostly what I like about 4.8 that 5.0 doesn’t offer is
when you run a full virus scan 4.8 will show you the # of files & folders in your computer
3-26-2010 Complete reg mode VIRUS SCAN DONE 604862 files,6582 folders all clean
while AVAST 5.0 doesn’t show
3-28-10 Install new AVAST 5.0
complete virus scan done, but does not keep count of # of files
so unless someone or AVAST tec can show me, how to gave AVAST 5 show the numbers & setting, I’ll say with 4.8-though AVAST 5.0 looks nicer,
Pict’s show what I am looking for in Avast 5,that avast 4.8 has
1, When you Open avast 4, you can set the scan from low to high along with "Scan Archives files"
AVAST 5 does not have,(or i haven't found) this setting
Archive scanning is accessible on the Packers tab on a scan profile’s setting (Folder Scan, ScreenSaver Scan, Context Scan & Custom Scans)
2 ACAST 4.8
You can set "Resident protection"
AVAST 5,dosen't show this feature
I don’t quite get what you mean. Specifically?
3 but mostly what I like about 4.8 that 5.0 doesn't offer is
when you run a full virus scan 4.8 will show you the # of files & folders in your computer
ALSO: Avast 5 has a Firewall, and Avast 4.8 does not (as far as I know) … but Avast 5 Firewall is not working for subnet/shared connections http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57922.0
If I understand correctly what are asking, and if if I recall correctly (away from my PC at this time) you open up avast!, at the main screen click on “Real-Time Shields”, click/select one of the shields, then click on the “Expert Settings”. When at one of the avast! windows, press the F1 key to see the help for items for the window.
Open main avast! User Interface, click on the “SCAN COMPUTER”, then click on “Scan Now” to see the avast! 5 pre-defined scans: (following from the avast! Help)
Quick scan - this will just perform a quick scan of your computer’s system volume (usually the C:\ drive on your computer). By default, only files with “dangerous” extensions are scanned, e.g. files with extensions such as “exe”, “com”, “bat” etc. Only those parts of the file at the beginning and at the end, where infections are normally found, are tested.
Full System Scan - This performs a more detailed scan of all your computer’s hard disks and by default, all files are scanned according to their content, in other words, avast! looks inside every file to determine what type of file it is and whether it should be scanned. The whole file is tested, not just those parts of the file at the beginning or at the end where infections are normally found.
Removable Media Scan - this will scan any removable media that is attached to your computer e.g. USB flash drives, external hard drives etc. It will scan the media to detect potential “auto-run” programs that may try to launch when the device is connected.
Select folder to scan - this option enables you to scan just a specific folder or multiple folders.
Each of the above has an “Settings…” button to further customize the pre-defined scans. To see summary of the scan details and the “Settings…” button, click on the “More Details”.
At the lower right corner of the Scan Now window, there’s the “Create custom scan” that allows you to create a new scan with all the required settings. This probably comes closet to the the avast! 4.8 scan options in your screen shot.
For more info/help open the avast! Help and read the contents for “Scanning for viruses”.
Now, I know what you mean. It’s in BBBB.gif, right?
You’ll have to dig down every shield’s settings in order to configure it to the max possible. Though looking carefully, the default settings are already optimal for everyday use. Setting it too high would cause numerous False Positives.
