I ran a thorough scan and when it was finished I had a window with a log of programs scanned. My husband insisted he had to use the computer, I asked him to please not close the log because I wanted to figure out what all the notes in the log meant. My husband closed it anyway. My question: is this log still on the computer and if so, where? There were files that said something about not being scanned “decompression bomb” and some that failed to move to the virus chest because they could not be found, or something like that. Not having the log I don’t remember exactly what comments there were.
Logs are usually stored in: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log
You can also see them from the log viewer. Right-click your avast icon in the taskbar, and click avast Log Viewer.
It depends on the version you are using the Home free version doesn’t retain scan information.
Since I believe this is about files that can’t be scanned and the reasons:
See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can’t be scanned.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
- Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system, also see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=15389.msg131213#msg131213.
The name really is the most dangerous thing about this and I wish they would change it or simply not report it, a real PITA.
