There are 1729 .tmp files in my AVAST directory (c:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast). 781 of those files have names start with “avB” and another 781 (exactly the same amount) have names that start with “HTM”. Then there are a few (167) that start with “AvD” The total size of these .tmp files is 3.62 GB and I’d like to get rid of them, however the program seems to have them locked so this is not possible. I assume they’re not necessary in the long run. Can you help me?
I only have a total of 100 objects in the C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast folder and not a single .tmp file.
What avast program are you running (free/pro/ais/premium) and what version number (11.1.2245 is the latest) ?
What were you doing just prior to noticing this ?
The avast self-defence module is probably stopping you removing them - avastUI > Settings (cog icon) > Troubleshooting - Enable Avast self-defence module.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I am using the free version (cannot get the version at the moment, but I believe that it is the latest version because when I checked for updates it didn’t find any). The .tmp files were created in two or three occasions over the past year, judging from their dates. I don’t remember anything particular on those dates, most were months ago.
In any case, I managed to delete them this morning by booting in safe mode. No nags so far, I guess they were leftovers from some process that doesn’t matter anymore.
Just to add to DavidR’s information.
When deleting questionable files it’s always prudent to have a back-up Image to Restore from in the case that the deletion causes issues.
