Threat check

Several days ago, a process called Setup.exe was using lots of system resources. To be on the safe side, I thought I should scan for threats.

The Malwarebytes scan has completed, and I have attached the log. FRST and aswmbr logs will be posted as soon as the scans are run.

Monitoring

Thanks, Magna86. It’s nice to know someone out there is ready to help me.

FRST logs are attached. FRST.exe froze and had to be restarted twice, but it worked out in the end.

Well, that was quick. The aswmbr.exe scan log is attached.

Hi, I see some suspicious in logs and I would like to search that a bit further…

Please download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop

Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
Confirm “End user Licence Agreement” and “KSN Statement” dialog box by clicking on Accept button.

[*] Press Start Scan
[*] If Suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
[*] If Malicious objects are found, select Cure.

Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\ ,for example, C:\TDSSKiller.<version_date_time>log.txt

Please post the contents of that log in your next reply.

The TDSSKiller scan was probably the fastest I have ever seen. Log has been attached.

ComboFix has completed. Logs are attached.

Looks like Chinese. Please save in ANSI and resubmit the ANSI file.

I am using web browser to read the logs (notepad) so somehow but barely I can read the Chinese. ;D

TDSSKiller logfile should be clean.

@dangerousknowledge

Could you please re-run FRST tool, check box for Addition log and run fresh Scan. Post me both FRST and Addition logfile.

I’m not sure what’s up with the UTF-8 and Unicode. Here are a few previous logs saved in ANSI. I will now re-run FRST.

Here are the new FRST scan logs. I made sure they are in ANSI.

FRST completed.

By the way, Avast blocks the download of Zoek.exe (it claims it is infected with FileRepMetagen). I have disabled Avast for this scan. Avast may want to fix the false positive.

Zoek has completed. It apparently deleted the Dollar General Coupon Printer program. Should I be careful not to reinstall it?

Hi,

Yes, you may re-install that back if you are using that. It was generetic target.

Re-run Zoek one more time as before but this time use this script:

EmptyFoldersCheck;Delete
FFDefaults;
iedefaults;http://www.bing.com/
EmptyAllTemp;

After the reboot post me the fresh created Zoek log. Then tell me how is the computer behavior now?

Zoek log attached.

To my knowledge, no setup.exe has used a noticeable amount of system resources since the time I first noticed it; however, the computer seems to be booting much more quickly now.

Then I will remove my tools. 8)

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

=> It is necessary to uninstall ComboFix :

[*] Click Start (or
http://amf.mycity.rs/pg/images/VistaStartButton.png

Note that there is a space between " ComboFix " and " /Uninstall " .

[*] then click OK (or press Enter ).

Wait for the uninstall process is complete.
