Every time I turn on and/or wake my laptop, Avast tells me a threat has been detected. This is driving me crazy. I notice other people have been saying the same on Google and here on the forum.
However, the advice in replies is hugely technical and far beyond me. Please can someone imagine the girl who puts Tippex on the screen to correct mistakes combined with… 'ooh, shiny thing! Bearing this in mind, what advice can you give please - as idiot proof as possible.
And one last question - when people reply on the forum here with advice, is it safe to take it or is there a risk that it’s another person trying to get me to download malware.

Besides those people you can at least trust everyone that have “evangelist” as title near their name.
That is a title that avast has given people who are active on this webboard with helping others.
