Hi when i start IE 11 (rarely ever use), have it set to blank page
Avast says Threat detected and gives the following

Infection: Win32:Malware-gen
Can anyone advise please , could this be a false positive ?

Check internet explorers addons.
Maybe there is a dodgy addon installed that triggers avast.
Click the cog icon in the top right of an internet explorer window then click manage addons.
Check all the addons for anything suspicious. You can disable addons here but not uninstall them unfortunately.

It appears to be somethinh inside the system trying to call home for more malware.
However, it wouldn’t hurt to start disabling the addon and find out which one it is.
