Hi, I just ran an Avast! quick scan (something I do once a week) and it picked up a “high” threat. I’ve never run into something that sounds this serious so I’m not sure how to proceed. Should I opt to “Fix automatically” “Move to Chest” “Repair” or “Delete?

Edit It seems to have something to do with the latest Windows Defender update from this morning. I saw other people had encountered the same thing…is this a false positive?

HI probably the best thing to is put the threat in the virus chest and then from the virus chest send it to avast the threat will be sent to the avast labs to make a fix for the virus. The next thing I would do is go to the virus and worms section and go to where it says Logs to assist in cleaning malware click on that link and download otl and do a quick scanand also also download malwarebytes free and save that to your computer and update malwarebytes and run a quick scan with it save the logs from both of these programs. All of the instructions are in the link called assist in cleaning malware section.

Whatever Avast! picked up came from this morning’s Windows Defender update - I noticed a few other people ran into the same thing. What I can’t find out is if it’s a false positive or not…

Its a false positive.

It has been fixed with newest VPS-Update. :wink:

This is probably a dumb question but what’s a VPS-update? I’m guessing it has to to with Avast!..
Since it’s a False Positive, what should I do with it? (i.e. Delete, Move to Chest etc)

VPS Updates are database updates.

You can restore the file fron chest if you want, or you can delete it.

How can I get the latest VPS update? (I thought they were streamed in automatically.)
And you’re sure it’s okay to delete? I don’t want to mess up Windows Defender.

Avast updates automatically, if you want to update manually go to settings>Update. :wink:

So it’s safe to use the “Do Nothing” option? Right now I can’t check for updates until I get rid of the scan results screen.

Ok, I clicked on “Do Nothing.” It asked me to run a boot scan, so just in case I let it restart the computer. Fingers crossed that all is well.

Whilst I’m here, the main page of my Avast! says that I have 38 days of registration left. What will happen after the 38 days? I’m using the free version but I do vaguely recall registering something a while ago…I can’t remember how I did it. Can I be proactive and re-register ahead of time? I can’t find an option for doing so.
