Ran a virus scan today with avast 6 free. It found item shown in the subject field, for Windows\RtlExUpd.dll. In the scan results it shows as successfully moved to the virus chest, and checked. However, I cannot click on the line item, nor can I click on apply to finalize the action. Moreover, when I open the virus chest it is not showing there.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Please, run a boot time scanning.
But before, maybe you can test the file with www.virustotal.com
