I am getting threats being detected on 8 out of 10 websites visited (even on this AVAST board) and I can no longer access www.google.com for the system. Also, I cannot see the “captcha code” to register for the help board. Been going on about two weeks now.

You’ve probably caught a nasty case of the malwares. Some extensions/hijackers might have altered certain settings/pages of your browser.
Install and run AdwCleaner from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
and/or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/
and/or
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
