three possible bugs

Hello, administrators and developers, I’m a user from China. And I have used Avast for two years. Recently, you released new version, I really like it and have tried it for two weeks. During this weeks, I found three bugs that troubled me a lot. So I must come here and report them to you. (It means old version seemed to work well on my machine past years, but the new doesn’t.)

OS: Win7 Ultimate x64
Language: OS and Avast are in Chinese, but for helping you to understand the problems, I got screenshot in English.
Avast version: 11.1.2241, all the bugs can be reappeared.

Bug 1: I click Avast in the system tray for once, window of Avast appears, for some reason, may be network busy, there is no profile picture and homepage (picture 1). At this time, if I close this Avast window, than a new Avast window would appear automatic in several seconds, and this time with profile picture and homepage (picture 2); if I don’t close it, and wait for several seconds, Avast window would shake and move to the center of screen also with profile picture and homepage.

Bug 2: I think this bug is a serious problem. Picture 3 would appear suddenly and unexpectedly. My connection is safe, my router settings also safe, and I used past versions of Avast with this network environment unless one years, it never warned like this. And, I’m using Avast Premier, but the warning advising me “upgrade” to Avast Internet Security, so funny, isn’t it?

Bug 3: I use Thunderbird to deal with my Email. Recently, when I sent a mail to someone, there would be two mail in outbox (both Thunderbird and the Email server), one is original mail, another is scanned and marked by Avast. The addressee may receive the one that marked by Avast only. Old version of Avast didn’t has this problem, had only one marked mail in outbox, and addressee received the same. The original mail do not be send out at all, why Avast still save it in outbox? By the way, old version marks mail with Avast logo, it’s better than only a site now.

Finally, thanks for your works, I love Avast!

Welcome.

I’m not an expert on the interface, but I could not reproduce Bug 1. I suppose it is a matter of the internet speed. Which are your download/upload average speeds?

About Bug 2 and advertisement of Avast Internet Security when we have Avast Premier, indeed, I’ve got the same. I suppose it is a bug. But you never know what marketing is thinking (joking) ;D
Regarding to the network security/router, I’ll check the points raised here: https://blog.avast.com/2014/12/04/12-ways-to-boost-your-routers-security/

Bug 3: I do not use Thunderbird to test. Hope another user can help us here.

Did you upgrade or performed a clean installation ?

Already performed a repair ?
If not, please do so and see if things have changed.

If the repair did not changed thing, perform a clean installation and check if things have changed.

thanks for reply. For Bug 1,I’m sure that internet speed causes it, I can’t connect to Avast server very well. But I think homepage is almost a local function, it shouldn’t depending on internet speed only.
And I have another question: where is Chest? I can’t find it in new version

where is Chest? I can't find it in new version
Right click on Avast tray icon :)

haha, brother, I say the same words to my users, though it’s useless.I know how important is to perform a clean installation, but it’s so inconvenient as everyone knows it, even I can’t remain the settings. Maybe I shouldn’t upgrade an antivirus software till reinstall the system next time.

thx

You can back up the settings - avastUI > Settings (cog wheel) > General - Scroll down to the bottom - ‘Back up settings.’

Once the clean install is done you can Restore them.

of course, I know this, sometimes(not all the time), maybe old settings would bring about other problems. If I have already spend some time and reboot several times to perform a clean installation, why do I risk to use old settings and repeat all this?

@perlboote,
If you already know all the answers, why bother to post here ???

Sorry, my words lead to misunderstanding, I had no intention to affront. But I didn’t said like that, please do not twist what I said. I just want to express that it’s not easy to follow their advices.

Same thing occur as@perlboote’s Bug1:Blank GUI of avast! free antivirus ???
