I need some help with a computer with Windows 98se and it is using Avast Home and Mailwasher Pro 5.0 and Thunderbird 1.5.
I have 'repaired ’ offline and online to get Avast to work with these two programs but it isn’t ‘stamping’ inbound or outbound and probably isn’t really scanning emails at all. I have watched Avast icon but only turns when Thunderbird and Mailwasher are checked.
I had “malware” viruses but don’t think this would be the problem with not getting an Avast scanning of emails inbound and outbound. And also the ‘stamp’ of approval.
Oh, my thunderbird settings are xxx@gobigwest.com for server smtp and incoming mail settings. My Email account name is xxxx@gobigwest.com to sign in. No authentication is checked nor ssl either.
My Mailwasher setting is also set as xxx@gobigwest.com to sign in and with password.
I would remove MailWasher Pro from the equation and have avast not scan MailWasher content.
MailWasher doesn’t download the complete email to do its analysis, it only downloads the headers, a small part of the body, it doesn’t download images or attachments and it views what is downloaded in text only. Based on this I personally don’t feel that any negligible risk worth scanning duplication. The choice is yours.
However, in your case with Win98 if the MailWasher account settings have been changed, they would need to be restored to what they were otherwise you might get connection errors relating to 127.0.0.1 server error.
By editing the avast4.ini file, [MailScanner] section using a text editor like notepad. It is best to save a copy of avast4.ini to another location in case of any problem, you can then copy the original back.
[MailScanner]
IgnoreProcess=MailWasher.exe add this line if you don’t already have an IgnoreProcess line.
