Time to find another anti-virus vendor............

I’ve tried everything on my Dell Dimension 2300 at home. I’m running Windows XP Home w/SP2 w/AdAware and CCleaner.

I’ve disabled “system restore”, run thorough boot scanning and regular scans w/archive scanning even in safe mode as well as trying to delete them in My Computer and I still get these nasty things back that Avast can’t do anything about:

Name

C:\windows\system32\config\system\profile.…\reg11.REG
C:\xmmtcc.exe[UPX]

Result

Infection:Win32:R
Unable to scan

Operation

Error occured during moving file to ch…
Error occured during deleting…

HELP!!!

Click on the link in my signature and follow all steps as explained on that page. Take your time to read and do it. Let us know if you still have problems after that.

cnw,

Do not be discouraged! We will get your system running clean. It may take a bit of time because we are not physically present to sit at the computer. We have to use the Question and Answer method. ???

Viri sometimes do not cooperate with our efforts. We then do not give up, but try a new method. We are all susceptible to them.

I myself just finished removing a trojan Adware.ncase from my registry. Don’t know how I got it on my laptop, but Avast caught it!

To give you an idea of the things we do to help users cure their ails…
Right now, I have 3 computers running while helping another user with a virus problem.
I use one as the ‘test bed’, the second for general research, and the laptop for fast communication.

I have a reputation for not giving up on a problem, so don’t you give up either. You have a nice system and a good OS which works great with Avast.

We’ll get it to work.

I will get back to you shortly on the virus you now have.

Have you installed A-2 yet? ((Freware anti-trojan scaner))

Thanks, yes I have installed A2 and it has only found 1 malware file after running it a few times.

Is there a phone number and specific time of day when i could call you?

Do you mean the Alwil team or us, the users?
I think it’s better use the IM or, even better, post here in forums. This way more users can help you at the same time at in the same issue 8)

I thought you guys were with Alwil

cnw,

I do not allow phone calls because it would tie me up to the phone. Bad enough I am chained to my computer. ;D

Sorry it took me a bit of time to research your problem, but I had to go out for awhile today.

Anyway, I think what you have are false positives.

Firstly, The file xmmtcc.exe is a UPX file which is simply a versatile executable packer .
UPX is distributed with full source code under the General Public License, and may be used freely even with commercial programs which may be harmless to you.

There is no information directly for the file reg11.exe

Are there any other files that you are worried about?

Thanks to all but I went out and purchased Norton Antivirus 2005 and deleted Avast cuz I couldn’'t stand seeing the same viri over and over and over again.

It cost $49 but you get a rebate for $20 so I figured why not. After the first scan it found alot more than Avast and so far, knock on wood, everything is running smooth - I guess you get what you pay for. I’ll keep you posted…

Well i wouldn’t agree. Most of worms are designed to rebuild its files when certain gets deleted. From technical view you’ll have the same problem with Norton. Except you won’t be able to use Boot-time scan because there isn’t any.

I guess you’re right… but you forgot to say, you also paid for huge system hog. I wouldn’t be so sure that Norton will find so many viruses more than avast! I know many users reported, when they switched from Norton to avast! their systems started to run much better and smoother… and best of all, avast! found every single virus that Norton missed… bottom line, uninstaling Norton one day, which is inevitable, is not so easy process… you’ll sweat to get that job completely done.

Anyway, good luck ! Everyone has right to choose what’s best for him…

 :frowning: >:( >:( >:( :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea, I expected to hear this kinda stuff but at least now I can get on the net where with Avast I coudn’t - the worms kept coming back and blocking my access although IM always ran fine.

Still got my fingers crossed…

Norton doesn’t have a cool forum like this though - oh well.

Did you try to get direct support (phone) from Alwil? ::slight_smile:
What were your problem that we can’t solve?

No don’t get us wrong cnw… we were just saying those facts out loud… I really wish you good luck (it’s not sarcastic), but I’m sure you’ll never have support like this with Norton…

Cheers !

I have used Norton, PcCillin, AVG, and few others but finally stuck with Avast. The reason I went with Avast is it`s the only one that really scans DivX files. If you click to scan and it takes less that a second to do 700 mgs file then nothing was scan. But with Avast try the same file and watch it go. There are other files that Avast was able to check that Even Norton 2004 would not even try.

Your right but, it does have a nice strangle hold on your system. That's what made me give it up in the first place.

cnw,

It is unfortunate that we could not resolve your problem at this time. Avast is an excellent product.

Avast 4.5 is almost ready for final release. Keep it in mind for the future if you run into trouble with, or are unhappy with Norton.

Best Wishes,
