I get with Avast personal edition & W2K, th message (in French):
“internet connexion timeout expired. Go on waiting? - thunderbird.exe → 193…”
What’s the matter? What should I do?
Thank you

Did you manually start the email connection ?
Were you sending or receiving emails with large attachments ?
If you have large attachments being sent it takes time to scan these and during that time there is no activity between the email server and your computer so the timeout warning is displayed. You can extend the timeout delay in your thubderbird settings.
Ok thank you.
My timeout option was 60 seconds, I’ve set it on 120.
So I will see.
(Anyway I have from time to time problems with my mail server, especially with more than 1Mb attachments)
That should help, welcome to the forums.
There is also an avast timeout settings that might trigger first if you extend the thunderbird one any further as the avast default is 120 also, you might want to have a slight gap between them both.

Thanks for all the good forum info. this is my first post.
I use thunderbird AND POPFILE and get timeout avast error on just about every fetch command I think. I had set timout I found in Avast to 120sec - no change, just now set thunderbird (info from this post) to 120 also, had set timeout in pop to 120sec… no help too.
any other ideas?
Try to update to the last 4.7.817 version. The timeout ‘issue’ should be solved. ![]()
Anyway, you can use larger timeouts than 120 if you need.
