Timeout when scanning outgoing mails

My problem is: when sending EMails with Thunderbird, I often got timeouts from my GMX provider (something like “timeout from SMTP-Server”). When trying to send it once more, it mostly works. But it’s annoying to send most mails two or three times.

After switching the Avast-scan for outgoing mails OFF it works now. With the problem someone mentioned in another thread that some kind of malware can be sent without my knowledge.

Do you have a solution for this situation?

What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
What version of Thunderbird ?

timeout means the application didn’t got a response from the server in time.
In many applications you can set the time the application is allowed to wait before it gives a timeout message.

OS is Win7 Pro SP1

Now Avast 10.3.2223, but the problem started at the begin of 2015, some time after I changed to Avast.

TB is 38.3.0
I can’t find some time setting in TB.

You are using a old(er) avast version.
Install the latest one:

Thank you, Eddy, but the timeouts started early in 2015. At the moment I switch the scans for outgoing mails OFF, to avoid the problem.

The more reason to install the latest version.
Things have changed.

In the meantime I changed to Avast 11.1.2241 - is this Avast 2016 that is mentioned in other threads here?

The new version tells me I have to register. I think I had a registration when I started with Avast … ?

Simply use your license (if it is still valid) en register avast.

You still haven’t told what exact version of avast.

OK, registration done.

The version is written in # 6 …

No, it is not.
You seem to missing the word “exact”.

please …
the program doesn’t show more.

Update to the latest version (2016.11.1.2245): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=179855.0

Hello Eddy,
what means EXACT ? As my screenshot shows, Avast delivers not more information to me.

@Asyn
I’m just loading the actual version.

Outgoing mails are scanned now; let’s see if the timeout problem is solved

OK, report back.

Ok - until now the problem seems to be solved. No more timeouts.
With ingoing & outgoing mails checked by Avast.

Thanks for the feedback.
