timeout

for some reason after i put a fresh copy of avast! pro on my laptop…i don’t have to check on timeout for internet communication under internet mail provider…for my outlook express/incredimail pop3 account to work…used to be i had to have that checked to work…is there a change in the new avast! than was before and is this required to be checked to work or not…or does it matter either way???Thanks!! 8)

Since avast! version 4.7.807 the mail scanner module (“Internet Mail” provider) has been significantly changed to improve the overall user experience, especially in case of slow connections (dial-up). Namely, most of (if not all) the “Timeout expired” related problems should be gone by now.

You can increase both your avast! timeout: Internet Mail provider > Customize > Advanced (tab)
and your email account timeout (generally, right click the email account, choose properties and the Advanced tab of settings).

tech…thanks for reply…i know how to turn the timeout on and to increase the time to 600…what i’m asking is if i don’t have the timeout for internet communication checked and mypop3 is working …do i need to turn it on…if so…will it enchance the internet mail or what!!!

It’s better to have it checked on. This way, if a timeout ocurred you’ll be warned or the connection will be closed with that server.
If not, you’re mail scanner could keep the connection alive although it does not receive/send data.
Maybe, I’m not sure, this will increase safety in dial-up then in permanent connections.

thanks…i have a cable modem with a linksys speed booster router -wireless to my notebook----so i will check the timeout and up the number to 600 just to be sure as you said…have a good one  8)
