titled ssl and thunderbird

avast tells me it cant ck email if its set to ssl inside thrunderbird. however any other setting in thunderbird give me a thunderbird error. This install of xp and avast and previous installs on this and other machines. So, i leave it set to ssl in thunderbird, otherwise it dont work.

ideas?

Security settings for outgoing and incoming need to be set to none in tb then restart tb

done and pswd sent insecurely (I dont like that). Rebooted and it works. I know it did not before (several times)

what about that pswd sent insecurely? i dont want someone to get my pswds.

If you look under the mail shield settings - SSL Accounts you should now see your accounts have been added to avast which will provide the security for you.
You should also notice mail being scanned in the mail shield traffic graph

The password isn’t actually sent insecurely, it is just that the email and ifo goes to avast free of SSL/security so that it can be scanned. The avast Mail Shield (avastSvc.exe) then handles the secure connection including your user name and password to send and receive your email securely (as required).

tks all. I see 4 entries in avast ssl accounts. first is imap, second is smtp, 3rd imap, 4th smtp

I have 6 g mail accounts, all are imap.

Do I need to add some?

I don’t use gmail at all, so I can’t comment on that one.

I think no matter. I have 6 accounts so need 6 or 3 entries, right?

I honestly don’t know or I would have said in my last post. I have zero idea how gmail works.

I don’t know if the exact values are correct, but this may help (please double check the correct values; use this only as a general guide).

Please specially double check the IMAP issue, as I think the KB article is more for pop / smtp.

now im confused.

i hav 6 accts:
imap.googlemail.com
port 143
security now set to none, pswd insecure

I just found these 6 (in addition to above):
outgoing server
smtp.googlemail.com
port 465
security ssl/tsl pswd normal

If you have all your various email providers comming to you through Thunderbird then avast will detect the accounts automatically now that you have set TB’s security to none, note that more account settings will be added to avast when you send to each provider and further more when you recieve from each provider, so if you do a send and recieve from each provider you use then you’ll see all accounts in avast.

I hope that makes some sense

tks
