Regarding the several times recently updates, it caused big troubles and disappointed.
Such as the whole PCs are running slowly (due to it’s enable “Software update”).
And, cannot send and receive email further via email client program after Avast program update.
(need to uninstall and reinstall Avast to solve the problem finally)
As for the previous point of reinstall Avast IS / Pro, it changed to on-line installation.
It caused me to install Avast IS/ Pro more than half hour (30min ~ 45min) per 1 PC.
I’d like to raise some points and hope Avast developer to notice.
The size of program become unreasonable big >:( (the package size of previous version is below 80MB)
prefer to improve the Avast engine and virus definition update rather that change the UI. Even how the brilliant UI, if it cannot provide good defense, it is no meaning.
(the purpose of Anti-Virus program is used to protect PC as defender).
After used the update feature of Avast to latest version, it causes POP3 email access problems which is not happen before.
(If doing the large program, could you remind the user to uninstall and install new installation package ? )
Provide off-line installation package rather than on-line.
I really hope Avast Developers can notice the above issues and do not go to wrong direction too far.
The package I just downloaded was only 86mb so 6mb more than the 80 you mentioned is nothing extreme and compared to many other AV’s this is quite small.
When updating from different versions I always suggest a clean install due to so much of the internals changing, this can alleviate many issues and makes for a much more stable package.
80MB is “unreasonably” big in an era where nearly every game comes on 2 dual layer DVD’s and terabyte drives sell next to bread? Not to mention current installer size is half the size it used to be with version 8.0. Other antiviruses aren’t any smaller either. If they are, then they don’t come with any signatures and they download them all soon after installation.
tlee got a point. Why follow other AV if they are heading to hell? The program size is comparatively big to the previous version, even when it sits on the background, users still notice the difference. It is not a matter how much memory it use on the hard disk, a 1-2G software is fairy common today, the problem is how much CPU and RAM it is using. That is the real issue in my opinion.
By the way, will there be any official fix patch for the version 2014.9.0.2011? My PC is still having an “Start up menu loop”, I don’t know what changes it made to my PC and therefore of cause don’t know how to stop it, I have to insert the XP original CD and start up on CD ROM every time. THAT is going to build bad reputation to avast. The longer the problem hangs, the more damage it makes.
