Well, I’m really sorry that you have this problem but as you know, no program is 100% safe. But I have been using Avast on one
of my PC for many years without any problems.
I also installed it on my daughter’s computer and some friends and they have been very happy with Avast so far. So I don’t
think this is Avast fault. You probably have a conflict with one of your program.
i would be grateful if u could give us some further information about your OS,the version of avast and if you run any other programs along with avst…these info may help the situation…
If so, please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
Better if you can compress (zip) them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.
Send an email to any of these addresses:

rassel, are you getting a box that pops up after the auto update that says avast needs to restart your system? Everything you are describing, including the slow performance and the avast issues after the auto updates sounds like you have the new version of the vundo / virtumonde virus that has been affecting a lot of people here this week including myself. If so the problem is not avast, it’s the infection that no program is able to prevent right now.
The only fix is a program called combofix, see my Confirmed fix thread for more info. Also you can check to see if you have the vundo virus by downloading vundofix from a company called atribune, but vundo fix will not be able to successfully delete it if you are infected. If you do have it, then combofix is the only program to fix things. After that, if it is your problem, your laptop will be back to normal and avast will work fine.
Also if you do have vundo / virtumonde, after you delete it with combofix be sure to update your sun java because that is what allowed the infection in the first place.
Thanks for all the help you all gave me but now the avast program is going on in normal aready and there is blue icon pops up aready. Well the problem fixed while i try to uninstall 100% avast and download the new installer and reinstall it and it working normally
I might be wrong, but I think it’s important to remove old (pre 1.6?) versions too, as I think I had the latest Java but still had 1.4 and 1.5 installed and caught the virus. I’ve now uninstalled them AND deleted the folders. are all the 1.6 versions ok on my system or do some of those need removing? (I’ve fixed the virus with combofix).
a lot of people might not realise they still have the old ones, expecting applications to clean up after themselves, which in my experience Sun Java doesn’t.
