to be up to date or not to be up to date, that's the question...

Hello !

I’ve been using Avast Home Edition for a long time now.
Recently I had a problem with my computer and I had to download Avast again few days ago.
But something seems to be going wrong : Avast keeps telling me that my Virus Database is too old each time I’m connecting to the internet, there seems to be some misunderstandings in the progam itself because each time I try to update the program or the database, it says that it is already up to date with the 0436-4 VDB version and Avast is also up to date according to itself (v. 4.1.418).
Each time I’m connecting to the internet the red box pop out and says that Virus database is too old.

Can someone please tell what to do ?

Thanks !

First thing to check is the system clock. Is it set correctly?

I have the same problem. My system clock is set correctly. When I update the database I get:

  • Vps: Already up to date
    (current version 0437-1)

But the about button reports version 0309-6.

Each time I boot up, I get the red pop up box that says that Virus database is too old.

have you tried manually updating ? i assume so having re-read your post . do you have auto update initiated and can it be turned off i wonder?

Can you please download my avast! External Control from my signature?
Use avast! Status Info function and use Dump to log button.
Log will appear on desktop. Then just post it here (attach it to post).

I’ve attached the log file you requested. Thanks.

Oh no you didn’t, something has gone wrong with your attaching a file, it can only be a text (.txt) file, copy the log file and change the file type to .txt and try again, or cut and past the relevant entries.

It should be attached now.

Your system is up to date.

I know it’s not the solution itself, but you can avvoid the inconvenience of the red panel tweaking your avast4.ini file (see ‘Settings’ on my signature) to ‘suppress update error info’
