I just have to ask this question :-[. I am just starting to use avast (today). So, how do i set avast to scan my incoming and outgoing e-mails or is it automatic?

If it is handled automaticly or not and if needed how to do it is explained in the help file. Since you are new to Avast I suggest you read it and make yourself familiar with Avast and the settings/options it is offering the user.
