Todo Backup Software

Thanks Speedy for the reply.

I was not referring to creating a bootable CD with Windows, rather I meant using the bootable CD creation function in Todo Backup Software.

For any one who may have downloaded this software, it works.
I had a chance to use it this morning.

Hi, it shouldn’t make any difference whatsoever.

Yesterday i retried EaseUS Todo Backup Free, thought i’d share my findings here.

Running Windows 7 x64 here and HDD’s are in AHCI mode. My system partition contains 15GB of data. Creating a backup image took 5 min and it created an image that was 8GB in size. There were no errors or anything like that. Then i created a USB restore disk and went about restoring the backup image which took a little less than 30 mins to complete, again everything went smooth, no errors. Since this program is free and supports scheduling and incremental backups i am willing to forgive it’s slowness when restoring.

Still not sure how it does with restoring multiple partitions at the same time, in particular the hidden 100MB Win 7 partition which was my previous gripe with the program. I posted on their forum about that: http://forum.easeus.com/viewtopic.php?t=19781

This reminds me of going to the Doctor with a problem but rather than getting your problem solved, you’re sent away with medication
that has nothing to do with your original problem… ;D
I’ll just stick with what’s already provided in Windows 7.

Yeah you’re right Bob. Utterly incompetent support staff over there. In their last reply to me they even had the balls to tell me:

Anyhow, we are glad to hear that your problem has resolved.

Resolved ??! Yeah OK, whatever… ::slight_smile:

@Darth.Mikey did you check your reply from EaseUS ???

Yeah i did, and Speedy you don’t need to notify me when i receive a reply, i am already notified by email. ;D

Just checking and I thought you’ve might have bash your PC with a base ball bat after you’ve tried the latest Todo Backup Software ;D

Like i said the program works just fine over here, i love that it has an incremental backup option and scheduling. If you read my latest reply over there you’ll notice i mentioned that i got rid of the system reserved partition so that is not an issue for me any more. Also i see the new version(3.0) is going to add some interesting new features to the program and i am eager to try them out. I am particularly interested in the image conversion tool(convert images to VirtualPC and VMware formats) and the ability to create tasks directly from windows explorer. Sounds nice.

Okay i just figured out something interesting. You actually CAN create a WinPE rescue disk with the free product. So no need to use the Linux rescue disk which is incredibly slow, at least on my machine(like i said restore took forever). Restoring with the WinPE enviroment should be much faster. Will report back after i’ve tested this. Here are the instructions on how to create a WinPE rescue disk. You will also notice that WinPE rescue disk supports much more of the programs functions. Starting to really like this product.

http://www.todo-backup.com/products/features/winpe-bootable-disk.htm

The WinPE rescue disk can indeed be created with the free version.

Once you download and install the Window$ AIK software, it is quite simple to follow the instructions.

Also: The WinPE rescue disk can be used on Window$ 7, Window$ Vista and Window$ XP. It does NOT need to have been created on a system running that specific operating system.

Also it supports RAID configurations which the Linux rescue disk doesn’t.

An update, successfully created a WinPE rescue disk and besides supporting many more options it is also much much faster when restoring. This time it took 13 minutes to restore my backup image. I believe i just found a replacement for Windows Backup. ;D

When you download the Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) this is for
• Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2
• Windows Vista SP1
• Windows Server 2008 family
• Windows 7 family
• Windows Server 2008 R2 family

The Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) this doesn’t accept XP

When you click onto the Windows Automated Installation Kit at the web link How to create WinPE rescue CD/DVD of EaseUS Todo Backup Free site provided by EaseUS http://www.todo-backup.com/products/features/winpe-bootable-disk.htm it NOT for XP OS.

Edit: At the Microsoft website when you click onto Windows Automated Installation Kit at the web link provided by EaseUS, I can confirm it saying this doesn’t support XP. @Avastfan1 I think you maybe misleading how can this support XP when you export the ISO file into the free version of WinPE rescue on a XP OS when you create a WinPE rescue, are you 100% sure this does work on XP when you boot into the WinPE rescue DVD ???

You would need access to a Vista or 7 machine to install Windows AIK but you certainly don’t need Vista or 7 to run WinPE, you don’t need an OS installed on your HDD even since WinPE runs from your CD/DVD or USB flash drive. That’s the whole point.

Not sure if this would work with Todo but you can try it i guess.

Todo support staff confirmed that a WinPE rescue disk can be used with all operating systems regardless of which operating system it was created with.

That is a worried Darth.Mikey I prefer not to try it otherwise I can smell kappboom :-\

Although the AIK version in the above link supports Window$ XP, it is not the latest AIK version.

@Speedy: Apparently the newest AIK(the link on EaseUS page) should work with XP, please try it.
