Too many Avast outbound connections?

I’m using Avast free. Could someone please tell me if the number of my Avast outbound connections is higher than it should be?

As I write this Comodo firewall shows the number of AvastSvc.exe (1744) outbound connections as 8. Sometimes it falls to 1 or 2 but on other occasions it is over 20. I have scanned with MBAM, Emisoft and Hitman Pro and have found no malware. Could there be a problem with Avast that would be remedied by a clean install?

Depends on the site. Some sites have over a hundred. Some very few. This site has >20 at the moment. Opera proxy ports about 10, Avastsvc, another 10 and they’re closing as I write this. Some may start with 5 or so, and close all but one. Mostly to remote port 80 (http), some add porrt 443 (https) if you need login.
Far as I know, all of this is totally normal.

Thats normal, i just checked mine then for reference and it was on 30 connections for AvastSvc.exe then dropped to 15 and now 1.

Absolutely, depends what your doing on the PC

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it’s quite normal then

You need to know how avast works, especially how it scans files on the internet.

The web shield redirects all http connections (you initiate using your browser, etc.) through the localhost proxy, which is controlled by avastSvc.exe and that is why you see so many connections attributed to avastSvc.exe. If the web shield and localhost proxy weren’t used then you would see a huge increase in the connections for your browser.
