Hi,

If you install the new version of ccleaner during install you will be asked if you want the google toolbar http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
Who is your email provider ? and do you use an email client on your computer ie (thunderbird etc) or are you accessing your email strictly via the web ?
I use gmail and aol, and I don’t know what an email client would be, so I probably accessing strictly via web.
If your accessing emails via the web then the avast email scanner does not scan these, there web pages so the web scanner is what is working for you there.
The email scanner of avast will only scan emails if your actually bringing them into your computer with a client such as thunderbird, windows live mail etc.
Better not to have toolbars imo as they usually all collect information.
So how do I get one? If use those can I still see my emails from google and aol?
Yes you can still access your emails the normal way with a client, having the client means that you open say thunderbird and it retrieves your mail from your providers for you without having to go to the web address manually, i prefer to still go to the web for my mail myself as i find its still easy and maybe a bit safer as your not downloading mail to your system but everyone has there own preferences.
If you still want one thunderbird is one of the best imo and you just add your email providers details to it during the setup process, you would also need to set your providers security to none so that avast is able to scan the mail and provide the security itself http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
Okay, sorry, one more question. If you don’t use a client will ccleaner that you recommend be okay, and/or should I use windows safety?
Ccleaner is a great tool to have on your system anyway, good for cleaning up your disc’s from your browsing history, cookies, temp files and just about everything that could or should be cleaned, it also does light registry cleaning.
Most people here use it and it is very safe, its never taken out anything that it shouldn’t like many other cleaner’s can, far better than the windows disc cleaner.
What is windows safety ? if you mean the microsoft saftey scanner iv never used it.
windows firewall - or would that help If I don’t use a client should I just be careful opening my emails, because I am getting spoofed now and am afraid to open my emails.
When you install CCleaner make sure you don’t pick the ask toolbars or any other toolbars comes with CCleaner, it not worth installing on your PC all you want is just the CCleaner software and nothing else when you download from CCleaner website.
Your windows firewall should definatly be turned on if its not, download and install malwarebytes, its free, once installed it should ask to update then run a full scan and let it deal with whatever it finds http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Okay, thank you for all your help
Ccleaner has the google toolbar ticked automatically so as SpeedyPC said untick the toolbar as there not needed, thanks for thinking of that Speedy
Your welcome
@craigb your welcome cause I just noticed that CCleaner hasn’t release to new slim version today which doesn’t include any toolbars.
@Ignats what Windows OS are you using on your PC as you may require a better firewall software.
