I have several PC all with Avast Free Version and bought a Printer Server TP Link TL-PS310U.
I disabled all shields and installed the PS from the CD and all worked fine.
Then once the PC’s restarted and all shields reengaged and they couldn’t print - I isolated the shields one at time and its the Webshields that when turned off allow the connection to the printer. I have tried several setting but no success.
Example; the PS auto connects when a print is ordered, with Webshields up nothing happens, as soon as i turn Weshields off the PC makes the new USB connection sound, prints and then does the usb disconnection sound. With webshields on nothing happens. It seems similar to a problem with in the forumn about Squeezeplay having similar access problem.
I put the PS IP address (192.168.0.9) in the shields exclusions but no joy.
You can put the application(s) that is used in the global and/or webshield exclusion list.
Other than that, I suggest you submit a ticket to avast with as much (relevant) information as possible so they can have a look at it.
Good thing i.m.o. would be setting avast to debug logging and attach the log file to the ticket.
Hi Eddy, Thanks for the suggestion to collect the logs. I can see where to turn Debug lon on but can you suggest where I can find the file when it’s created in Xp Pro and what it will be named.
Hi Eddy, I forgot to add the error message says that a driver isn’t loaded and it may be C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRVSTORE\NUServerXP_87F6D4B18921DC8AB6EBA1E7820BF379B5374602* which I have included in the Avast exclusions but it didn’t improve the situation. This laptop (and other PCs) when a print is ordered do not connect to the PS via the local lan until the webshields are turned off, then connection, print and disconnection happens automatically on the print that was help up waiting…
The NUServerXP_87F6D4B… looks to me like a temporary file that is create for a print session.
Perhaps using wildcards in the exclusion will work.
Something like this might work: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRVSTORE*
Anyway, it shouldn’t be blocked but work “out-of-the-box” in my opinion, so submit the ticket I would say.
