Just one more proof that there is no such thing as privacy on the internet.
There is, however, security!

With Google using (or in the process of using) internet fingerprinting there will be even less privacy.

The best policy is to block javascript running (certainly from third party websites and websites that the main website will report to -( see Disconnect) as far as the website functionality is not being hampered and third party requests are being blocked. Stopfingerprinting extensions will block fingerprinting. A good adblocker also stops quite a lot. But where all requests and responses are logged continueously one can imagine there is not much privacy left on the Interwebs. So data and info posted is being retained (forever).

I have never been worried about traces I leave - I leave very few bread crumbs. For it to see anything I would have to allow sites in NoScript and RequestPolicy.

Until I do that Nada.

Allowing it through NoScript and RequestPolicy give a total of 68 traces - but in all honesty much of what it there is pretty benign.

Okay polonus you suggest us to use Google Chrome right ? Well I don’t think that that is a good idea.
The process called “GoogleUpdate.exe” is a Official Spyware from Google. Sends your hardware and software information and internet usage history to Google and that isn’t good privacy, and they call that “Feedback”. I suggest to use everything else just not Google. That is atleast my opinion.

Therein lies the issue, it isn’t just Google, Yahoo/Bing do the same thing.
And it isn’t just your browser, it’s also your browsing habits, and which
add-ons you have with your browser. Although not a big fan, NoScript
and Request Policy will stop “most” but not all fingerprinting (at least
that is what I gather from what I’ve read).

Hi Georgie123,

Trojan and adware can piggyback on the legit executable for instance: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/threat-center/threat-analyses/viruses-and-spyware/Troj~dnSauce-W/detailed-analysis.aspx What you say is the Google updater infested through malcreant’s action.
Hardware and software info is exchanged by all browsers, by Google, by Microsoft. Google Safebrowsing works in Google and firefox, but on Duck Duck go you do not get that particular protection, neither various prescanning inside the search results page, you have to do a link scan separately with DrWeb’s. VT, Metascan online or Recx and WOT example-> https://www.metascan-online.com/en/scanresult/file/844d55f8e3364faf91c33a9b63b471fa
How would you hide your font configuration in your browser against fingerprinting? Do a test: http://fingerprint.pet-portal.eu/?menu=6

I agree with that one, I sometimes use DuckDuckGo atleast they provide a bit more of privacy! Doesn’t save cookies and will not remember the search history (Or atleast show to us ? ) I personaly use Mozilla Firefox combining it sometimes with DuckDuckGo.

-EDIT-
I just saw you message polonus, so let’s get clear about that: There is almost no privacy on the internet anymore, I always scan a site before visiting it including it’s domains and hosts. DuckDuckGO is not perfect BUT doesn’t save cookies and won’t remember the search history (Or show to us ?) I used it just 4 times I just can’t handle it. And what I think to keep a bit of privacy is delete all the cookies, scan sites and NEVER allow it with NoScript! Oh and if it won’t display the site I just allow the site not the other domains in it so I think that It could keep a bit security on the internet.

Hi Georgie123,

We have lost that fight quite some time ago, what you do now comes under the catagory of rearguard actions.
When we fought cookies web beacons came in and perma-cookies and self-resurrecting cookies, then fingerprinting and whenever that has been evaded new more devious tracking techniques is being designed. Know that user tracking is being brought about by the smartest web-developers around and be assured that commercialism and marketing rules all that goes on on the Interwebs and the end-user role is to sit there to be the exploitable product.

Oh and I might add that some websites “Force us” to enable the scripts in Noscript.
For Instance Youtube what does it require: Youtube.com Googleapis.com Google.com GoogleVideo.com and Ytimg.com without that Nada we can’t se anything so we are “Forced” to enable those scripts in order to watch a video.

If you use Chrome to open YouTube you’re at least using a secure form of Flash. There are always trade offs.
There also is not privacy on the internet regardless of how hard you try. It’s an unfortunate fact of life.
Those in Great Briton may even loose what little privacy can still be had.

Hi bob3160,

Yes for feeling more secure Great Britain may forbid all forms of encryption and in China everybody online will have to use their real identity (name), so that would mean I can no longer use my Chinese nick 墨龙 = polonus (molong) there
We shall also experience that content will be taken down by ISP’s on government demand here in the EU.
Does that bring us more security - I guess it will not, will that give us even lesser privacy - I am absolutely sure about that.
And who checks on the controllers? I wonder if there are any around.
