I find the conception of tracking cookies repulsive. What right has a site to track what I do and what I browse.
Luckily, Avast has a toolbar icon dealing with tracking cookies where I can block them.
This Avast blocker keeps changing from enabled to disabled, I think on
browser or PC shutdown. Why does it not stay at my setting ?
Having outlined my attitude to tracking cookies, this Avast Forum has ONE tracking cookie, which
Avast has blocked.
The most likely reason AOL (Avast Online Security) defaulting to Disabled is because the Avast cookie needed to keep the settings as Active and Enabled is removed or deleted each time your browser is closed.
You could just use a more secure browser like AVAST’s as mchain suggested. But doing that has a bit of a poacher turned gamekeeper feel about it. However there are many others like Startpage/Ixquick, DuckDuckGo and of course Tor.
There may be a way of stopping the AVAST blocker mentioned from switching from enabled to disabled using CCleaner. That has a cookie management system built in where you can save specific cookies. If you can identify the cookie concerned you could add it to what is effectively a white list so that it is not deleted on shutdown.
That’s the theory. I have no idea whether it would work in this case but it is worth trying.
Thank you all for your comments.
I love chrome so much and have customised it entirely to my needs, so I will keep it as my general default browser.
Question ? Avast Secure Browser is a freebie and your high recommendations are very impressive.
Can I download this browser and use it as a standalone manually as needed ?
I like the idea of having such a secure browser for certain surfing activities.
Thank you bob. I clicked your link, downloaded and installed the Avast browser and imported successfully all my Chrome bookmarks and passwords.
My bookmarks bar is exactly as in Chrome and the passwords for sites work perfectly.
It looks the mirror image of my Chrome and is highly likely to become my default browser after more experience.
A million thanks, I am beyond amazement at the similarity between the two browsers.
