Tracking down why Network Shield keeps blocking any site every 2-5 mins

This is the third attempt to send this (I can see no evidence that it has been sent)

I get ‘Malicious URL Blocked’ warnings every 2-5 mins when my browser is just ‘on’ (I am connected to the internet permanently) Very annoying >:(

I use Avast 5 free and Firefox 5 on a windows 7 machine.

Malicious URL Blocked
Avast! Network Shield has blocked a harmful site

Object: 64.11.211.170 or 150
Infection:URL:Mal
Process: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\rundll32.exe

or C:\Users\PP\Appdata\BthEventLite\IanAuthenticationhid.dll

I have tried:

  1. Avast full scan (No problem)
  2. Avast boot time scan (No problem)
  3. Malwarebytes (No problem)
  4. Super antispyware (no problem)
  5. ESET online scanner (6 Malware items)
  6. Sophos antirootkit (no problem)
  7. OTS (log file in ANSI form enclosed

This warning doesn’t occur when I disconnect the internet. It seems as though this repeated warning is being triggered from within the PC. Has anybody any ideas about this one. (I can’t even find any leads on the internet)

Thanks Paul

Once you have run this could you let me know if the alerts continue

Start OTS. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the panel where it says “Paste fix here” and then click the Run Fix button.

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Depending on what the fix contains, this process may take some time and your desktop icons might disappear or other uncommon behavior may occur.

This is no sign of malfunction, do not panic!

Thank you for getting back so quickly. (A good reason to stay with Avast !! - I hope they are appreciating you)

Here is the results file (ps I didn’t select Reg - Disabled MS Config items etc)

Thank you
Paul

Are the alerts still present ?

Not at the moment but yesterday evening we watched Iplayer without any interruptions. Can you keep this open until tomorrow just in case.

Thank you

What has caused this and how did it slip through Avast?

Yep we never close ;D

If you do get the alerts let me know and I will dig deeper

Have you just updated some codecs ?

No Codec update that is recent (last month)

Any other ideas where it might have come from? What is it, what is it called?

No name as such - it is new ;D

But if you could upload to Avast as undetected malware, they will give it one

The miscreant will be located in C:_OTS\moved files\C:\Users\PP\AppData\Local\BthEventLite\lanAuthenticationhid.dll

Open Avast and select virus chest
Right click in the white space and select add
Browse to the above location and click the bad file
This will now appear in the chest
Right click the file in the chest and select send to virus labs
Fill in the form as potential malware
Then manually update Avast to send it

Done.

PS No alerts so far.

Thank you

Thanks - once you are happy let me know and I will remove my bits and bobs

Hi

Still no alarms - looks like it is sorted.

Thanks

Paul

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[

Hey there! I’m pretty much the exact same problem as Tycho except I’m on XP and am not nearly as tech savvy as him apparently. I don’t know what this OTS is or where to get it, and if I did I’m not sure if it would work since he is on Windows 7.

Any possible help boss?

Instead of the DLL messages mine come from here, also a different IP looking thing.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe

Hello guys same problem as both problems above except i am running vista.
object is 66.230.138.163
