Transfer to new comp?

Hi. I’ve had Avast Pro for some time on a laptop that died last night. The hard drive is history. So, I bought a new laptop today and installed Avast, intending to reactivate it with the licence file I had saved. But when I tried to open the licence file to put it in the app, nothing happened. I continued to see the “buy now” button.

From memory, I had the best part of a year left, so I’d like to continue using the app that I bought, on this new machine.

Can anyone give me any clues, please? What do I need to do?

Are you using the same email you used before when you registered it? Do you still have the email they sent you then? Giving them some of that information may help you when you contact them.

I don’t have the email they sent me because it’s trapped in the hard drive that died. But I can quote my email address of course. Hope that’s enough.

I tried the “resend licence” option, but no luck. I actually tried using all six of my email addresses, but strangely, I only got a reply on one of them. And it said that there was no record of a purchase using that address… you’d think I would have received similar emails on all the other addresses…

I even typed in a fake email address, just to test it, and the site said it had sent an email to that one!

Strange… I do not want to have to buy the product all over again.

EDIT: I found my product key on a thumb drive, and inserted it. All good now. Strangely, when I tried to insert that same key, (which I’d saved on a different drive), it didn’t work. Probably just a corrupted file.
