Translating Avast!

Hello everyone! My name is Juozas, I’m from Lithuania. I realy like Avast! antivirus, becouse it’s free and it gives me security I need. But there is one thing that fusses me. Avast! is not translated to Lithuanian  I could do it myself, but don’t know where to start. Do I need to ask Avast! before doing this? Can I translate entire program? Eventually, is it legal? Maybe, you can help me?

Send an IM to Igor and you’ll receive all the info you need.

Welcome to avast translators team

Hello my name is Kenneth Sørensen
I’m from Denmark and I also want to participate with translation of Avast, just into Danish that is. I already have been writting to Igor but I haven’t received any answer. I have been using Avast! 4 Home Edition for about 3 years now, and I think that this product outstands a lot of the other antivirus products on the market.

Please contact me. I would be very glad to help Avast! 4 home and pro to get more danish costumers with a antivirus product in danish.

Kind Regards
Kenneth Sørensen

Uf i totally forgot i still have to finish Slovenian translation… :o

He he. Well I just can’t wait to get started. So I hope soon someone will help me with what software to use, and who i should send the results to, and so on and so on  Most of all, I need to know how I can stop avast from replacing the files i translate.

What?!?! There is no Slovenian translation?!?! ??? :o ??? :o

My, oh, my … what are we to do with you, RejZor? ::slight_smile: ;D

I was kinda short of time (and morale if i’m honest). Not to mention how incredibly stiff is our language for computer terminology ::slight_smile:

“malware” means “zlonamerni program” or god knows how i could translate this.
“move to chest” is “premakni v skrinjo”.
But all these words are pretty short, some take 4x the lenght of english word and thats just dumb placing whole book on one button.

Also igor said that they need licenses for translations for other languages (program update was schduled in that time). So i gave it back. I hope it can still be translated from that point hm…

This is already solved… they’ve got unlimited licenses for translation…

Unlimited licenses for translation is very nice. But how will I get started the right way. Isn’t there any info page about what I need or something. Any special person I need to contact or what ? because no one has contacted me yet. I have already tried to translate some of the avast file with “Resource Translator Project”. I only did this to practice and to see what I was volunteering for. And after translation I replaced the original files from avast, just to see them get replaced by avast. But the translations worked, just for a small amount of time
But anyone please tell me what to do. I really just want there to be a danish version of avast antivirus. And I would love to make it happend.

Kind Regards
Kenneth Sørensen

The right address for this would be “igor” i belive. He’s from Alwil team and he managed all the stuff for translation so i guess it would be best to contact him.
Or just drop a note to general Alwil Software mail and right person will reply to you.

Two things are really confusing…

1.) I thought Miha (darth.mikey) is doing Slovenian translation, so now i see RejZoR is also doing it…
2.) I thought Vlk mentioned that they have people on regular pay-roll who are doing those translations, but now I see there are some others that are not really on their pay-roll and still working on these translations. I asked Vlk is there any possibility for employment at Alwil, since I was looking for job at the moment… I remember Vlk asked me if I know any other language, but I said, the only one besides English, I speak Serbo-Croatian, so as far as I am concerned, I could do that part without any problems… but I guess they don’t need avast! translated in those languages… or maybe, someone is already doing those translations…

Alwil, maybe some other, GFX job position this time ? ;D

I’m affraid not but you can contact any of the other translators and share experiences.

Igor: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=70

You can’t manage avast translation this way. On the next update, avast will check the integrity of the files and replace the translated ones.
You should receive the files for translation from Alwil, use a special application called Passolo to do that.

Sasha you are partly correct… I had loads of free time on my hands back then so i was doing the Slovenian translation for avast! but then something happened(i got a job ;D ) so i unfortunately don’t have the time for translating anymore and that is the reason i stopped with the translation.

@Rejzor: Yes some of the words are really hard to translate to our language but if you decide to start translating avast! again i’ll be glad to help you out anyway i can

Cheers,

Mikey
