I am having a problem with the avast tray icon…I can’t find it.
I thought it was not run by the startup, but when i checked ‘msconfig’, it was checked. But there is no icon. Still, when checking the running processes in Task Manager, i can read manya ‘ash—’ services running, but no icon.
I tried checking the setting for ‘Show tray icon’ and check the ‘Animate’ button, but to no avail.
Well, it’s actually running…but i can’t find the tray icon.
I would be really grateful if anyone could help me out with this.
I’ve just become an Avast user and had a similar problem. My cure was reboot and never close the On-Access Protection Control window with the RED X, only click OK.
Thanks for the forum, will be looking in often until I get the hang of this product
Is the reboot always done repeatedly? or was it only once and then the problem is cleared?
Does anyone know how, in the first place, this problem (tray icon gone) occurred to some computers like mine, or Skywarrior’s? cause I’ve been using Avast quite a while till this problem happened.
If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
I am having no more problem with the tray icon for my avast at the moment thanks to rassel.
I did the ‘repair’ thing in Control Panel, which is similar to your second option if the tray icon is gone.
I was just wondering what could make the tray icon be gone.
I run SpywareDoctor (startupGuard) and SpyBot S&D (but not the TeaTimer). In fact, I have been running them for a while before the tray icon was lost…and I personally don’t think that it was caused by any of them.
