Since the last auto upgrade the tray Icon does not show even though the correct boxes are ticked under Menu>appearance
So there is no indication that Avast! is in fact checking the system while on line
Can anyone help please with some ideas?
Thanks

To be sure that avast! is running, check the task manager, there should be these entries:
You could try a repair of avast!

Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP, Vista?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Thanks Tech & Scott. The repair option worked
Thanks again

Yes, same as Tech, glad to help
No icon here either. Did the repair and it did not bring the systray icon back. Looks like I’ll have to uninstall/reinstall. Any ideas why this is happening?
Hi camphill,
Could you answer these questions?
sometimes av remnants can interfere with the avast! installation

Yea I guess I missed some of those important points…
I am running Vista 64 Home Premium. After the repair and the still missing tray icon, I rebooted for some other reason and voila! the icon is back. So I guess the repair did in fact work but needed a reboot to complete the process.
Thanks
Ok, Glad it works now
