Trend Micro Detect Avast as Possible_Hifrm-5

Hi, a pop-up from my Trend Micro shows a message of detection “Threat: Possible_Hifrm-5”.

File location: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP_avast_\unp195878148.tmp
Root cause analysis report shows that it was created by AvastSvc.exe on 4th Jan 9.29pm.

Any idea what is going on?

Thanks.

So do you have Avast installed with Trend or was Avast and old AV now removed?

That location C:\WINDOWS\TEMP_avast_\unp195878148.tmp is where the avast scanner (avastSvc.exe) unpacks or moves files for scanning. That is as much as avast has to do with ownership as such.

Once avast had successfully scanned it removes those temporary files - the problem being avast won’t be able to either scan or remove them as it is essentially locked by the other AV scanner.

As Craig implies, this can be a classic case of a clash of resident scanners.

Hi guys, Trend has expired but was not uninstalled.

I installed Avast free version on top of it. So, yes, I currently have 2 anti virus software.

Probably should remove 1 of them. Thanks for the help!

instructions are found in link above....

You’re welcome.

Yes you should certainly remove Trend - having an out of date security application is almost worse than not having one - no updates to correct bugs or virus definitions, etc. Not to mention what you have found conflict between two dogs fighting over the same bone.
