Yesterday, after having NO problems playing Warcraft III the day prior, I discovered upon turning my computer back on that Avast had decided to put war3.exe (Warcraft’s executable file, essential for using warcraft III) in the virus chest. No amount of restore/restore and exclude would get it out of the chest. It stubbornly refused to release it from the virus chest. I went to the FAQ for avast and not one suggestion worked. Not manual exclusion, not rebooting after manual exclusion, not temporarily disabling the active scans and then either rebooting or re-enabling active scans to try to get the exclusions to “take”. As far as I can tell this must be some sort of bug or fault in Avast, but “repairing” avast in control panel or updating it made no difference. I must have rebooted my comp numerous times and I spent most of the day trying to pull not only that file but a file pertaining to my router updates and 3 files pertaining to Steam (and online suggestions on how to fix THAT problem had no effect at all, either). It was confirmed that none of these were viruses.
I am very frustrated! This needs fixing and it needs fixing soon.
After also trying to restore the belkin router file, it appears to never even leave the chest at all after I hit restore. It does not reappear in the default location, not even for a second. With war3.exe, without which a notification pops up when I try to run Frozen Throne.exe (a different file) or Warcraft III.exe or just try to run the game as admin “CD rom drive error Frozen Throne cannot find war3.exe” even though I have the no-cd required program included in my store-bought warcraft III cd, and putting a CD into the drive (for Warcraft either frozen throne or reign of chaos) brought up the same message. It only appeared when trying to restore war3.exe that it might have popped out momentarily just looking at the virus chest list because it’s last on the list and the window was a short window. When I extended the bottom of the window and kept trying to restore/restore and exclude, it also would appear that the program never even made it out of the virus chest at all. This was confirmed when default location was opened, it did not appear back in the default location at all. In other words, Avast isn’t restoring anything. The restore function is simply not working at all.
Yes I have. This is one of the first things I tried after restore/restore and exclude. This also does not work. The file will NOT appear in the location that I have selected (the Warcraft III folder).
I did also send false positives of all the files to avast lab, waiting on a response. How is it that none of the functions for the virus chest to extract/restore/exclude will even actually function?
yup submitted a support ticket yesterday. I just wanna make sure I didn’t miss anything, any possibly secret way to kick avast to make it work like the fonz hitting the jukebox.
