Trj Vundo

I repaired a Laptop for a friend that wanted me to take Bull Guard AV off and re-install one of my choosing so I elected Avast free, upon scanning it came up ‘clean n’ green’.

But when searching for an AV it kept producing AVG and some registry cleaner or other along with ‘make your computer faster now scans’ along with other crap which I wasn’t searching for. Now AVG would be one of the last AVGs I would install and thought it odd these kept popping up.

For some reason or other unknown to myself I downloaded Malwarebytes… that saved my day thank God! The laptop was riddled with trojans, Trojan Vundo being one of them and browser hijackers, I very much doubt this was a ploy that Malwarebytes is using.

Whats the point of using Avast if it can not detect a sausage? So much so it’s making me think again about removing Avast, out of 8 infections not one came up!!!

Avast should have at least been waving a red flag… it seems that Norton can detect these why not Avast, isn’t their files on our computers big enough?

It’s a poor do Avast when Malwarebyte saves the day.

Dave

sorry…your post is a bit confusing…do you have avast AVG and Norton installed?
running multiple AV will give you a slow machine; mysterious windows errors and false detections

So much so it's making me think again about removing Avast, out of 8 infections not one came up!!!!!
what detected these 8

can you attach the log

Can’t understand why my post is confusing as you say… I ‘personally’ use Avast pro.

I began by

No Norton there is there - Bull Guard yes but not Norton?

Then I said

Clearly this is saying that Malwarebytes found these Trojans and other nasty’s that Avast didn’t find, Avast didn’t flag one! OK, not arguing there was some malware in there too, there was a couple of browser hi jackers.

This makes Avast look like a chocolate fireguard doesn’t it - useless! To be honest Pondous I was gobsmacked… please, don’t tell me this is a ploy that Malwarebytes uses to make you buy their product - for I used the free version!

Before deleting them from quarantine with Malwarebytes, wished I’d kept a copy now - it would have filled this page, I Googled two or three of the trojans… lo and behold Norton knows about this and able to detect them so they claim, please note: so ‘they’ claim - this is not me saying it can!

I am now having serious doubts about Avast, why on Earth didn’t Avast find at least one, that for ‘me’ IS worrying?

I got a really bad trojan on my laptop while using avast free anti-virus last year & i cant do nothing with it my laptop as been unusable since then. Every time ive switched it on & windows loads up it freezes the screen & i can’t get past this point :frowning:

Im no computer wizard & i taught myself all the basics about computers & the web so i don’t have a clue what some things mean or how to correct them.
I got the virus around christmas last year (just my luck) & i needed the computer to be able to work from home & access my website & accounts so i was stuck without any money, at christmas time, & couldn’t get online.

Out of desperation thinking this virus was in the systems restore i turned off all the drives thinking it might stop it from running as i didn’t want it wiping all my files from the computer.
Now i can’t even turn them back on again. I just get a egg timer spinning on the screen & it goes no further.

I can’t even move the cursor so i have to force shut down. That laptop is now sat on a shelf & is useless to me. My friend gave me her laptop to borrow mid january & i downloaded the free version of avast as i don’t know of any other that works better. Ive Only just started earning money again & i was considering buying a upgrade of anti-virus software as i don’t want my friends computer infected too.

But Ive had problems with my browser mozilla firefox blocking java as they said it was unsafe & its only just corrected itself after weeks of experiencing hanging, freezing & crashing Before i even get the chance to buy any anti virus i notice today when i logged on that the “avast” icon in the system tray as vanished?!
I knew i hadn’t un-installed anything & i remember using it the day before to scan the full system so i checked the programmes installed & i found it but it says “last used on 2nd february” (confused?)

So i used search to scan all drives for Avast & it brings up a full page of scan results & don’t know what any of it means. So i used the uninstall avast tool thinking it would be better to download a fresh version but after removing avast i search all files again to check its removed everything & i get the same list again.

Do i have another virus again? I just can’t think what is going on so im unsure what to do about it? Ive not downloaded avast again as im starting to wonder if its even running properly & detecting any viruses at all?

Hi miss Dana J could you follow the steps in this thread and I will have a look http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
