New to the forum.I have been having a problem with spyware. I am running win98
,Avast ver4.6 home edition,
build mar2002(4.6.603

Please give more info on why it can’t process, what errors/messages did you receive.

What was the filename, where was it found example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?

Check to see if it is running, use Ctrl+Alt+Del key to see what programs are running, if you can identify it, end it. Then run avast again, otherwise try the next step below.

Can you try to boot into safe mode and run avast in safe mode and see if you can remove it that way.

apologies, This was posted before I was finished writing it. I started a new thread above with a hijack this and startup list log. In furthur research it appears i have trojans that may be due to cool web searchspyware. i’m thinking about running cool web shredder. what doyou think?.

Well I’ve just analyzed your log, but running cool web shredder (CWshredder) would be a very good idea as well, its a good removal tool.

You should have continued this thread as information is/would be spread over two threads, it makes it confusing for those reading either thread as information is incomplete.

I think that you should continue in the other thread were there is likely to be more information and abandon this one.
