Avast has moved this virus into the chest. Should I delete it ?
The only problem it seems to have caused is the following message when I boot up… Error loading C:\windows\system32NvCpl.dll access is denied. If I click ok the message goes and everything seems to be running normally
Please advise…but keep it simple I am not clued up on this subject having managed to avoid a virus up to now.
Leave the file in the chest indefinitely: it’s a quarantine area where the file can do no harm but can be restored in the rare event that the detection was a “false positive”.
I don’t really understand why the virus should have caused the problem you mention, but somebody else had the same problem and found a solution. Might be worth a try.
First I presume you mean C:\windows\system32\NvCpl.dll and the NvCpl.dll is I believe an nvidia file. Though I don’t know why access would be denied, but that isn’t something that avast is in control of.
So is the nvcpl.dll what has been moved to the chest ?
If so I believe you need to do some further analysis.
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here the URL in the Address bar of the VT results page. You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.
Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.
