Trojan cant be moved to chest!! Help Please?

Can anyone help me? I am new at this avast antivirus. I FULL scanned my computer and was able to detect trojan many times and able to move it to chest as recommended. But this time, when i moved the Trojan to my chest, it says that there is not enough space. Please help? :cry:

Can you say what is the infected file name, where was it found (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx)?

You can configure the Chest size into avast settings (right click the ‘a’ blue icon).

there are 3 files on the log viewer.

First is: virus win 32:small-IES [trj] on file name C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-593324574-2427011219-1836630465-1005\Dc337.avi

Second is: virus win32: MyTob-TE [Wrm] on file name C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP

Third is: a Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code … dwRes …

My max size of chest setting is 256 MB. What is the recommended chest setting anyways? Thanks in advance for your help.

This seems a big file. What about emptying your recycle bin?
Are there other users in this computer?

You can delete this file. This is a dump file, generated when Windows crashed. It’s safe to delete.

This is an avast error… maybe you can Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP?
Do you use any other antivirus in your try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

It’s ok to keep this size. Indeed that two big files should be deleted and don’t need to be put in the Chest. If you want to do with one of them, choose the avi one. See its size and set avast Chest for a bigger one.

I would say that it is possibly the .avi file or the memory.dmp that could be too large.

Since the .avi file is in the recycle bin, I would just empty the Recycle Bin. The memory.dmp is another redundant file, if you have a system crash BSOD, then everything (depending on your settings) in memory gets dumped to that file (including any memory resident virus).

This file can be used to help identify the system crashed, but it requires either a specialist to examine the file or you have to have the tools to to examine it and the experience to interpret it. It is only of benefit for a short time after the crash, so I would just delete it (not something I would normally advise) as if you have another crash in the future the file is recreated.

As far as the Chest limits (Program Settings, Chest) go I have mine set to Max size of Chest 512MB and Max size of file to send 2048KB, though there are times when you still might get the chest size error.

Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.

I mean another user that has a different logon name, not the same as you (your desktop, etc.).

Ad-aware is not the best antispyware round… maybe you should try avg-antispyware, a-squared, SuperAntispyware and/or SpywareTerminator.

I am the only one who uses my computer for that matter.

I will try the boot time scanning as you suggested.

Thanks for the info. It helped me a lot. I will just uninstall my adaware and use the AVG anti-spyware instead. Thanks for all the help. ;D

You can keep both. The free versions do not have a resident part, so they won’t conflict each other.
