trojan found, not enough space on disk to put in chest

just ran a sweep, said it found Win 32: VB-BMA
put it in the chest the first time, ( sweep is still running as we speak)
2nd, 3rd time it popped up, I got a notice I could not put in chest for there’s not enough space on disk and said it could not process etc. So I just clicked continue and am letting it finish out it’s scan. Home version here, not pro.

I checked my program setting in the chest, it said Max. size of chest is 256 mb, max. size of file to be sent is 1024 kb, what should I “UP” it to?

Anyone heard of this trojan and what should I do after the sweep is completed?

I noticed everyone doing this “hijack this” logs here and I do not know how to do that !

I use SAS religiously. It always finds adware, tracking cookies-I quarantine those all the time.
MBAM is running now and should be done soon, so far its found nothing .Ran it a few days ago and it found nothing.

[s]You haven’t said where avast! found the file, but from the file size, it looks like the hibernation memory file hiberfile.sys. This is not usually scanned by avast! because it often causes false positives, but if you were scanning from a separate partition, this wouldn’t apply.

You can ignore the detection- if there was a file in memory, avast! should pick up the file elsewhere, and the file will be over-written the next time you hibernate anyway. Often detections in hiberfile.sys just look like false positives generated by random strings anyway.

Check the avast! log and see waht it says about the name and location of the file.[/s]

EDIT: Re-read post.

Hi Frank,

Have it in the virus chest 2x. Says both were in in Doc. & Settings,\myname\local settings\temp
with a string of numbers and letters after that .
Not sure what you mean by a separate partition?!
I just ran the scan from my avast program that’s downloaded on my computer. Sorry but yes, I am computer challenged.
MBAM is done btw, found nothing and I also had no choices to DO anything with these buggers avast found.

Sorry- scrub my previous advice- I misread kb for mb. :-[

You will need to increase the maximum file size to something above the size of the file concerned- but I guess you did that already as it’s in the Chest.

If still having problems, here’s a link with scren shots explaining how to use post a HijackThis! log.

EDIT: Correction.

Frank,

in thinking back, this trojan warning popped up at least 4 times during the scan. Apparantley I was able to put 2 of them in the chest then I ran out of disk space for the other two times. ( kept popping up with the warnings frequently there for a bit , guess I lost count )
After I could not add anymore to the chest due to insufficient space , I just chose to " continue" scan .
If I run another scan without " Upping" my disk space ( I did not do that )
and it finds more " buggers", will I be able to put them in the chest ?
Thanks for the Hijackthis!log info !

Can you find any information on the large files in the avast! log? Name, location, size etc.

Frank,

per the properties in the chest, it says the original file name is SuperAntiSpyware.exe.hdmp ( HUHHH?)

In Folders as I stated earlier : Doc. & Settings,\myname\local settings\temp\wer5b7b.dir00
the other the same but it has wer70bd.dir00

both have same file size 80447379

last modified on bot was 12/30-08 with date of transfer yesterday

Thanks Frank !

Mr Google says “.exe.hdmp” are just error report dump file and safe to delete.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061021075813AAKl8N0et avast! delete any it says are infected.

Mr. Google and FreewheelinFrank are our friends, thanks Frank ! 8)

No worries.

To help prevent future infections, scan for out-of-date and insecure software and update any vulnerable software.
