What version of the program and database (VPS) file are you using? Do you have the program set to auto-update the VPS files? The next-to-current version of the VPS file had reported several “false positives”.
If you are unsure whether you are using the most up-to-date version of avast, try doing an update and see if it still reports the file in question as being infected. If it does, follow the steps below:
Step 1 is to attempt to verify an infection by using one of the online virus scanners. I used Trend Micro the other day. There are others.
Step 2, if the online scanner indicates there is NO PROBLEM with your system, then stop the AVG program from running, find the reported DLL file, and zip it up (password protect the zip file so it won’t be flagged as virus infected when you try to email it). Email the zipped file (along with the password) to virus@avast.com so these guys can take a look at the file. When you email the file, tell them exactly what directory the file was located in.
