I got this (see attached screenshot) warning from Avast today that bittorrent.exe was accessing a secure POP server. Even though I trust bittorrent, this behavior is somewhat odd and I immediately suspect that my bt was hijacked by a botnet. I immediately killed the bittorrent process and uninstalled it, but how would I make sure that the same problem won’t recur if I reinstall BT? Anyone with any help/suggestions/tips in this regard?
You have to check the bittorrent settings and stop it using email ports for communication or file transfer as that will trigger the Mail Shield to scan the content, which will fail for two reasons, 1. it isn’t using email protocol and 2. it is using a secure connection.
I don’t use any p2p application, so I don’t know what settings to use or how you would stop it from communicating or transferring files on ports 25, 110, 119, 143 which avast monitors.
Why install another anti-virus app when you have avast monitoring your traffic or you can have it have avast scan the completed download. I don’t see the sense in this duplication.
