Trojan, No Trojan

Avast Free
XP-Pro SP2

I use Adobe Acrobat. I password protected an Adobe PDF document so it’s layout couldn’t be changed.
I forgot the password. I DL’d a file from the Internet that somehow discovers the password I used to protect the document.
When the DownLoad finished, Avast warned me that it detected a Trojan. I clicked to ignore.

I ran Avast on the ONE new, downloaded file and Avast found NO TROJAN!
Where did it go? It’s not in the infected chest/vault. I initially told Avast to ignore the detected trojan and to do nothing. So, it shouldn’t be in the chest/vault.
Is the download shield more sensitive than the system hard drive scanner?

Thanks

Best for you would be to run a thorough scan or best a scan after start-up (reboot). ::slight_smile:

Why?

I suggest:

  1. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  4. Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
  5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
